Jimmy Fallon And The Roots Should Go Ahead And Cover Every U2 Song

Because it’s the cool thing to do on late night shows this fall, U2 was supposed to set up shop at The Tonight Show for a weeklong residency, beginning with last night’s episode. Unfortunately, Bono broke his arm while taking a bike ride in New York City, and the band had to cancel. Jimmy Fallon, ever the entertainer, good musician and showman, realized that he already had “the best band in the world” on his show in The Roots, so he slapped on his best Bono accessories and treated the crowd to a cover performance of the classic U2 song “Desire.” As expected, the Internet and Fallon’s fans rejoiced.

But why stop there? How about a whole week of this instead of any future U2 residencies? I think I speak for a lot of people – and I write this as someone who enjoyed U2’s new album, “Songs of Innocence” – when I say that we could use a little less U2 right now. We’re all a little U2’d out and 2014 could use a final month or so of Bono-free fun. Just give us some more cover songs and everything will be fine.
