Watch Rainn Wilson Look For Lesbians In A Shed In The ‘Backstrom’ Trailer

For nine seasons, Rainn Wilson played the weird-but-occasionally-kind Dwight K. Schrute, and if he wanted to, he could probably coast by playing a similar weirdo on a middling sitcom for a few years (though, not that same weirdo, apparently) for an easy paycheck. But instead of doing that, Wilson decided to change things up a little and play a different kind of weirdo in Backstrom for Bones producer Hart Hanson.

As we can see in the above trailer, Backstrom is a brilliant but dysfunctionl detective who is seemingly despised and revered, but not at all liked.

Essentially, this show looks like Detective House (and the murderer is NEVER going to be Lupus!). While this isn’t a new concept or a proven one — thanks to past high profile tries like Jeff Goldblum’s Raines and Damian Lewis’ Life — Wilson may have the required charm and skill to pull it off. And I hope he does, because while most people like to root for the underdog, I am totes team asshole.

Backstrom is expected to debut at some point in the spring of 2015.
