This just doesn’t work for us. Randy Jackson, the guy who loved to remind the world he gave us Mariah Carey and patented his own slang word is leaving American Idol after 13 seasons with the show. Jackson, who besides host Ryan Seacrest is the show’s longest-standing star, first served as a judge, then later as a mentor on the reality singing competition. His easy-going attitude and insight into the music business made him a valuable player on one of Fox’s highest rated series, but his newly announced exit was a long time in the making.
Jackson revealed he had plans to leave the series after Season 12 when he gave up his judge’s seat. He returned to coach contestants shortly after but this time, he’s retiring from the show for good. In a statement from Fox and Idol producers, the network gave thanks to Jackson for his years of service:
Randy has been such an integral part of American Idol since Day 1, both as a judge and as a mentor. He’s provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years. We wish him all the best in his next chapter. Randy will always be part of our Idol family and we hope he’ll visit from time to time.
Randy, we’ll miss you dawg.
