Aside from Maria Menounos pushing E!’s “mani cam” on Jennifer Aniston and Naomi Watts almost face-planting when Birdman’s cast accepted the Best Ensemble award, last night’s SAG Awards ceremony was mostly free of awkward and embarrassing moments. That’s pretty rare and refreshing for just about any large scale event these days. Of course, there was that bizarre moment when someone hit the canned applause while Reese Witherspoon was speaking, but other than that, the show went off without a hitch. Bummer, right?
Well, there was one facepalm-worthy moment during the TNT red carpet coverage, as Danielle Demski was just full of compliments for Rashida Jones. After Jones shyly revealed that she was wearing an Emanuel Ungaro gown, Demski commented, “You look like you’ve just come off an island or something, you’re very tan, very tropical,” to which the daughter of Quincy Jones replied, “I’m ethnic.” Good thing it was only the SAG Awards and not one of the 8 million other awards ceremonies for actors.
