Hannibal Buress Already Forgot The Name Of The SXSW Band He Played Drums For

Hannibal Buress is a man of many talents. He’s a writer, powerhouse comedian, co-host of The Eric Andre Show, and continual tester of absurd humor’s limits. When he offered to play as any band’s drummer in a Twitter message at SXSW, one lucky indie band took him up on it.

Little did he know, Jimmy Kimmel would ask him to remember their name later. For reference.

As the 30 Rock writer told the story, Kimmel called him on omitting that not-so-small detail:

Kimmel: And what was the band?

Buress: The band was named, I — uhh… This is just horrible right now.

Kimmel: Yeah, this is your band. You don’t even know your band’s name. This is their big moment at SXSW and their drummer can’t even remember their name!

(audience laughter)

Buress: This is really bad. I’m disappointed in myself.

Kimmel: You know, we have plenty of time.

Buress: You don’t have the name?!

Kimmel: I don’t.

Buress: What about your Research Department? Why you putting it on me? You all have been working. I’ve been out in the streets getting drunk. Of course, I can’t remember that!

Great deflection there, Hannibal. Blaming Kimmel does seem like a fail-safe, admittedly. But it’s Speedy Ortiz. Speedy Ortiz is the correct answer in this game of Name That Band You Played For Today. Don’t worry, this is going to make them a lot more famous.
