Is it the voice or the words that make a tremendous pop song? How about a marriage between the two. The divine Ms. M, Bette Midler, knows a thing or two about turning beautiful words into sonic gold as she has with “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “From a Distance,” but she’s never had material quite like what she was given on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
In the above clip, Midler sings Kim Kardashian’s tweets, allowing Kim K’s words to penetrate us more deeply than they had on social media. Heartbreak, pain, strife and injustice are all on the canvas when poets order their thoughts for the consumption of others, but the minutiae of a Kardashian’s life might just blow it all away because it’s so real and relatable. Bette Midler just opened up a new reservoir for singers the world over, y’all.
