Netflix just announced a new series order for Montauk, a drama from Matt and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines) that will take place on the tippety-tippiest part of Long Island in the 1980s. According to Entertainment Weekly:

The show will take place in 1980 Montauk — Long Island’s most eastern point, known for its wineries and beach homes — and chronicle the search for a young boy who has mysteriously gone missing. The case involves “top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl.”

True fact from a native Long Islander: there are lots of ghost stories, some of which actually involve government experiments that allegedly took place in Montauk. So there is definitely plenty of raw materials for the showrunners to draw from. Imagine the breezy, troubled community of Showtime’s The Affair having a tawdry romance with The X-Files, but keeping True Detective on speed dial for a booty call.

Montauk is set to be released in 2016.
