The fourth season premiere of Veep aired on HBO last night, and though Selina Meyer has taken over the presidency, the show hasn’t lost a beat. In fact, in the last season with Armando Iannucci as showrunner, the premiere boasted one of the best, most densely written episodes of the series. In case you missed one of the lines because you were still laughing at another, here were the best quotes of the night:
1. This was genius, and I will use it for the rest of my life.
2. A great line that just kind of breezed by.
3. The perfect joke for anyone who has never seen the movie, but still understands the reference.
4. A small, but hilarious observation about how politicians must feel all the time.
5. There was nothing sly about joke, but it was also blunt-force hilarious.
6. How’s it hanging, Jonah?
7. When Gary is spying on the president through a window across the way, Jonah makes a reference to Lee Harvey Oswald’s location when he shot Kennedy.
8. Another spot-on description of Kent.
9. Dobby the House Elf?
10. Never underestimate Dan’s ego in a time of crisis.
11. And I almost couldn’t stop laughing.
12. And the line of the night, and a perfect summary of Selina Meyer’s presidency, so far…
