Weekend Preview: More ‘Mad Men’ And The Adventures Of Arya Stark On ‘Game Of Thrones’

Game of Thrones
(HBO, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — In last week’s otherwise satisfying premiere there wasn’t nearly enough Brienne (and Podrick too!) and we didn’t get the chance to see what Arya is up to now that she’s kicking it in Braavos. Luckily, that will change this week. We’ve also been promised, by way of synopsis, that Oberyn’s special lady, Ellaria Sand, will be featured and that Stannis is going to have some things to say to Jon Snow following his merciful act of archery last week.

Mad Men (AMC, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Joan goes away on business and Peggy and Pete scuffle over an account. Everyone continues to look much more put together than our grandparents probably did.

Grimm (NBC, Friday 8:00 p.m.) — Juliette gets into the wrong kind of trouble thanks to her erratic behavior and Hank and Nick investigate a case that leads to a secret petting zoo where the baby zebras wear little business suits. Or the case leads them toward some messed up supernatural sh*t. Guess. I miss when shows used to have fun episodes. Remember that time Magnum took Higgins to get a sundae and they laughed about how they kept getting ice cream in their mustaches? That was pretty great.

The Messengers (CW, Friday 9:00 p.m.) — And suddenly, a new friday night genre show has entered the arena. Will it live or perish? We shall see! This one involves a mysterious object that kills and then un-kills five strangers. It stars… people. Nobody familiar to me, but sight-unseen, I bet they’re pretty and in their 20s.

Lost Girl (SYFY, Friday 10:00 p.m.) — The final season of this imported Canadian sexy succubus series starts off with a trip to Hell. Curious what happens? Ask a Canadian, this episode aired up there in December and they will surely tell you all about it because they are nice.

Orphan Black (BBC America, Saturday 9:00 p.m.) Following the events of the season two finale that revealed the existence of another batch of clones, Sarah finds herself searching for Helena while the Leda sisters are in danger from a Topside investigator in the season 3 premiere. This episode is also airing on AMC at the same time thanks to a deal between the networks and not some kind of situation where AMC has decided that they’re just going to straight-hijack other networks’ shows.

Once Upon A Time (ABC, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — It’s a Cruella origin story that shows us that her wicked mother used to throw dalmatians at her or something. Really? Can’t Cruella just be an evil dog hater? We’ve gotta make it seem like she’s on some twisted revenge campaign against a breed of dog?

Last Man On Earth (FOX, Sunday 9:30 p.m.) — The episode title is “Moved to Tampa” and I hope that’s true. Nothing against January Jones and the cast, but I don’t see what more the Phil character can get from staying in Tucson. And I don’t see what viewers gain from this turning into an ensemble piece. The idea of pulling up stakes and looking for more people is more appealing to me as a viewer. But maybe I’m in the minority on this.

Silicon Valley (HBO, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Richard and the Pied Piper gang try to recover from the news that Hooli is coming after them in court.

Veep (HBO, Sunday 10:30 p.m.) — Selina’s staff prepares for a state dinner with Israel, and Amy gets big news over Facetime.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Alec Baldwin and John Mayer on Letterman.
