Even if you’ve never watched American Idol, there was a time when news of the reality talent competition was inescapable. In the golden years of Idol, names of the finalists were household names along those of presidential candidates. Nowadays, not so much, as the winner of the 14th season was crowned last night. If you’re anything like me, you have no idea who it was. That’s probably why it’s getting canceled.
To prove this phenomenon, Jimmy Kimmel sent out a film crew prior to last night’s finale for a special American Idol edition of Lie Witness News, asking people on the street what they thought of the finalists. You know, the finalists, Robert Durst and Joe Biden. Actually, if someone doesn’t know that Joe Biden isn’t an American Idol finalist, I think American Idol‘s relevancy isn’t the biggest problem here.
