A Special Part Of Letterman’s Old Set Survived To Live On Another Show

Remember when we told you
that macho workmen had ripped David Letterman’s iconic Late Show set into tiny slivers with their bare muscular hands? You probably also remember that the bridge replicas (not to scale) that served as a part of the set backdrop had been removed and loaded into kidnap vans. But where were they going? A museum? Jay Leno’s house? Nobody knew, but now we know… oh, we know.

Chris Gethard is David Letterman’s comedy child in as much as Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and virtually every other relevant practitioner of comedy born over the last 40 years is. As such, fathers will often pass down heirlooms to their kids. Such is the case with those bridges, which will now occupy a place on the set of Gethard’s splendidly weird and wild late night show, The Chris Gethard Show, which can be found on Fusion every Thursday at 10 p.m.

So, is this a passing of the torch from one legendary boundary breaker to a young apprentice? No, it’s a fiberglass miniature bridge, but it’s still a pretty cool thing that will debut when Gethard and Will Ferrell marry off a couple in front of the bridges on this week’s episode:

Even if you’re not a fan of Gethard (why?), you have to admit that this is a hell of a lot better than the bridges winding up in a dump, Leno’s garage or some hipster dufus’ apartment.
