‘Mr. Robot’ Is So Good, USA Just Renewed It For A Second Season Ahead Of Its Premiere

The series premiere of Mr. Robot isn’t until Wednesday night, but the USA Network’s latest show has already been renewed for a second season. According to our own Danger Guerrero, television’s latest attempt to present a relevant piece of hi-tech fiction has all the goods — computers, computer hacking and a totally convincing Christian Slater dressed down to look like a man with a poor sense of personal hygiene. But is this enough for USA to say yes to the dress-ed down Slater?

Apparently so, as the crowds at SXSW loved it. So did Danger and everyone else who watched the full first episode on YouTube, which USA made available to help promote the show. Even NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment president and CCO, Jeff Wachtel thought a second season was more than justified:

“We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail’s provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that ‘Mr. Robot’ is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television. The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we’re excited to see where this timely drama will take us for season two.”

So yeah, there it is. Esmail’s new show hasn’t even aired yet and it’s already set for a second season consisting of at least 10 additional episodes. Maybe they’ll be able to afford a trip to the nearest CVS and an outlet mall for Slater’s benefit.

Check out the first episode of Mr. Robot at 10 p.m. ET tonight on USA.
