Superman Is Going To Be Terrible At Attending Family Reunions On CBS’s ‘Supergirl’

When it comes to protecting Earth from its own villains and those from beyond, CBS’s Supergirl is going to be flying solo. The series’ executive producer revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Supergirl’s cousin Superman will be way too busy to stop by and assist her in battling bad guys, so if you’re tuning in with the hopes of seeing Kal-El every now and then, you’re going to be very disappointed.

That is, unless you squint and pretend that random people behind Melissa Benoist are Clark Kent, in which case you’ll absolutely love this show.

“Our prototype is the way the president is seen on Veep,” executive producer Ali Adler tells EW, referring to the HBO drama’s clever way of mentioning, but never showing POTUS. “It’s certainly [inspired by] so much of what Julia-Louis Dreyfus’ character goes through. Ultimately, this is a show about Supergirl and we really want to see it through her lens.”

Now I kind of wish that Supergirl could be a comedy like Veep. Just ruthlessly funny insults written in to Kara Zor-El’s efforts to protect people. Also, Timothy Simons could guest star as Jonah after he’s hired by Lex Luthor. That way we could eventually see Jonah crushed by a building, and it would be the best moment on TV ever.
