Masters of Sex (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan go head first into the swingin’ ’60s as Mrs. Masters offers to, ahem, share, and the world sees rapid improvement in the “electric massaging” industry. It’s a sexual revolution out there, y’all. If you can’t be smart, be safe.
True Detective (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Vince Vaughn keeps doing his Frank Costello impersonation while Colin Farrell tries to reconcile things with his son after the incident with the LeBrons or whatever. Tim Riggins yells obscenities.
Ray Donovan (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Blood, stoicism, more blood and Katie Holmes mark the return of Liev Schreiber’s badass fixer series. Come for the hand-to-hand combat, stay for the pithy self hatred emanating from the protagonist.
The Spoils Before Dying: Murder in B-Flat (IFC, Friday 9 p.m.) — The final two episodes of Will Ferrell’s murder mystery set against the jazz scene in the City of Angels.
Sex With Brody (E!, Friday 10:30 p.m.) — So, this is really happening. E! has officially given Brody a show where he just talks about sex. In the pilot episode, Christina Milian talks about her Kegel exercises and has some questions about squirting. Give ’em the Emmy, now.
HUMANS (AMC, Sunday 9 p.m.) — The episode description suggests that, “Pete is angry at the brothel murder cover-up.” First of all, it seems like a waste of energy to be angry at the cover-up as opposed to the people who carried it out. Secondly, isn’t there always one weak link in the chain when trying to cover-up a brothel-murder? Never fails.
Ballers (HBO, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Spencer and co. go into full Hangover mode in wake of the epic yacht party. (See what I did there?) Also, Sol George from 8 Mile learns a lesson he should have learned from watching Breaking Bad. Two cellphones, bro. C’mon.
The Brink (HBO, Sunday 10:30 p.m.) — More military hijinks in the air and political drama over the phone (complete with obligatory George W. Bush jokes) as Tim Robbins tries to keep it all together on the verge of an international crisis.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO, Sunday 11 p.m.) — After a brief hiatus for Independence Day last week, John Oliver and company return with what’s surely a poignant #HotTake on a controversial or hilariously innocuous social issue. It’ll be wonderful.
Wimbledon Women’s Singles Final (ESPN, Saturday 9 a.m.) — Serena Williams vs. Garbine Muguruza: This is Muguruza’s first grand slam finals appearance, and the 21-year-old finds herself staring down a Serena Williams who’s not messing around right now. If she figures it out, it’ll prove to be a wonderful origin story for tennis’ star of tomorrow.
Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final (ESPN, Sunday 9 a.m.) — Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer: If Federer’s performance against Andy Murray on Friday is any indication, this one is appointment television. Do yourself a favor and skip brunch to do the crossword and watch some tennis. You’ll feel uppity, but also relaxed.
