Brace Yourselves: Louis C.K. Is Taking Another Break From FX’s ‘Louie’

Louis C.K. is taking another hiatus from his Emmy Award-winning series Louie. It was announced at FX’s TCA panel on Friday that C.K. is taking a breather similar to the one he took in 2012. CEO John Landgraf made his case for C.K. by saying, “After writing, directing, starring in and mostly editing 61 episodes of television, he’s anxious to take a break from the show and work on other things.”

Louie‘s fifth season on FX wrapped on May 28 with no real official renewal announced. This hiatus isn’t really much of a break, though, as C.K. is still producing the FX series Baskets starring Zach Galifianakis and Pamela Adlon’s Better things. Oh, and let’s not forget the feature film project he’s writing with plans to star in.

But when will Louie be returning for its sixth season? Your guess is as good as FX’s:

“Gosh, I hope 20 years is the outside date but I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the right analogy,” he said, referring to the open-ended future of Larry David’s HBO comedy. Curb has produced eight seasons since 2000, mostly at David’s discretion. And while there are no immediate plans for a ninth, HBO has left the door wide open.

“It’s really going to be his choice,” Landgraf said of the hiatus’ possible duration. “It could be six months or two years.”

For our sakes, let’s hope it’s closer to six months. I’m already having withdrawals.
