According To NBC, A ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ Reboot Is Indeed Happening

Contrary to what you might think, a Xena: Warrior Princess reboot is in development at NBC. A month ago, news hit claiming the network was aiming to bring Xena back to the small screen. Almost immediately, series star Lucy Lawless shot down that news as just a rumor.

Adding fresh fuel to the fire, THR is reporting that NBC confirmed at their TCA panel that a reboot of the series is really, truly, definitely in the works.

“Yes, we’re in the early stages of developing a new take on Xena and we’re looking for a writer. We want to do it,” Greenblatt told THR on Wednesday night at NBCUniversal’s Television Critics Association summer press tour party at Spago.

In July, it was originally reported that the Xena reboot in question would bring back executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi. Yet, during Starz’s TCA panel — where Lawless joined Tapert and Raimi to promote Ash vs. Evil Dead — it was said that none of them were, as of yet, involved with the project.

It seems there is definitely a rift in communication here as Greenblatt confirmed with the press that there is a deal in place to see the return of the two producers to the new series. Currently, the network is searching for the appropriate writer to pen the project with an aim to get Xena back on the small screen sometime in 2016.
