WDBJ’s Morning Show Hosts Held Hands And Had A Tearful Moment Of Silence During Their Broadcast Today

Earlier today on WDBJ’s morning show, Mornin’, anchor Kim McBroom, who was hosting the show when Alison Parker and Adam Ward were shot and killed live on the air, fought through tears as she told viewers, “We come to you with heavy hearts. Two of our own were shot during a live shot yesterday morning.” As she spoke, an “In Memory” image of Parker and Ward was displayed on screen.

Later, the entire morning show cast gathered at the news desk and held hands.

“It was around this time that we went live to Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward,” McBroom said, again fighting back tears. “They were out in the field. The story was like so many others they did all the time, reporting on our hometown… we want to pause and reflect and share once again what made these two so special… please join us now in a moment of silence.”

McBroom then thanked the viewers at home and the entire community for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received.

During a weather report, Leo Hirsbrunner became emotional while recalling how Ward would come over to the weather desk every morning, grab a piece of candy and hide the wrapper somewhere on the desk. Hirsbrunner said he found one of those wrappers Thursday morning.

Throughout the show, during Hirsbrunner’s periodic updates, his voice faltered. “I don’t even know how to do weather on a day like this,” he said.

McBroom told him: “Good job, partner. We’re going to get through this together.”
