‘The X-Files’ Revival Confirms That Mulder And Scully’s Romance Never Had A Chance

As has been said numerous times in the past few months, love is dead. It was already dead by the time Kermit and Miss Piggy broke up (ruining lives, apparently), but now it is just being massacred by Fox’s new revival of The X-Files. Just picture a bunch of weeping widows and fathers pulling a Don Corleone at the funeral parlor.

Anyway according to Entertainment Weekly, Fox revealed the crumbling of the relationship (something that was alluded to in the finale) to the folks at TCA in a brand new clip that showed the former couple arguing over the ongoing conspiracy:

Fox showed reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills a new clip of the highly anticipated The X-Files revivial on Thursday. In the scene, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s iconic investigative characters were no longer together—and having a major blow-out fight.

In the clip, Scully describes herself as “your friend and physician” to Mulder. We checked with a source close to Fox who confirmed that, indeed, the two are no longer together.

EW’s James Hibberd noted that a previous article on The X-Files revival called for this very thing to happen and was met with derision by the fans in the comments. Hard to think that they’ll take this official confirmation very well, especially when you have videos like this floating around out there.
