Comedy Central’s Drunk History is a fun series in which people get incredibly drunk and attempt to explain important historical events. David Simon, creator of The Wire and Show Me a Hero, is a very smart and passionate man with many opinions about things that have happened, are happening, and could eventually happen. And, if things all work out, the two might come crashing together at some point.
Explanation: Vulture has a conversation between Drunk History creator Derek Waters and the man who produced his first web series Derek and Simon, Bob Odenkirk. Around the midpoint, their chat turned to an upcoming episode about journalists, and a crabs-and-tequila sitdown Waters had with Simon.
Waters: Could not have been sweeter. Really funny. When you’re next to somebody like that, you think any minute they’re going to look at you and go, “What are you doing? You don’t know what the f*ck you’re doing.” He didn’t say that. At least not out loud. He was great. He wants to be a narrator next season, if there is a next season.
Odenkirk: He’s willing to get that ripped?
Waters: Yeah. He wanted to get ripped. We drank tequila and hot sauce. And I don’t do well with hot sauce, but I’m not going to say no to him. I start doing it, and I’m just crying. He was like, “Oh, I know what you’re f*cking doing. I know the interrogation tricks. You’re trying to pretend that you’re not f*cked up, so I’ll start drinking more.”
A potential David Simon episode could (a) be really great, (b) challenge South Park for the most f-bombs bleeped in a single Comedy Central episode, and (c) be hilarious, especially if it turns out the fiery, red-faced David Simon we’ve come to know turns out to be a goofy, giggly drunk. This must happen.
