Lisa Kudrow And Matt LeBlanc Really Wanted Phoebe And Joey To Bone

Ross and Rachel. Monica and Chandler. Gunther and sadness. Joey and… Phoebe? Of the main six on Friends, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc’s characters were the only ones who didn’t get together; she ended up with Paul Rudd, and he went to bed every night with food. In an interview about their recent Emmy nominations (Episodes being recognized is an insult to the brilliance that is The Comeback), People asked Kudrow and LeBlanc why they never boned.

Well, they nearly did. For the entire series.

LeBlanc: Towards the end we actually pitched the idea that Joey and Phoebe had been having casual sex the entire time. We’d go back and shoot all the historical scenes and just before a moment that everyone recognizes, there’s Joey and Phoebe coming out of a broom closet together. But they were like, ‘Nah.’ (Via)

This sounds like a better version of Forrest Gump. He was present for many of America’s most important cultural events throughout the 20th century, except in Kudrow and LeBlanc’s version, Forrest would have had awkward, secretive sex with Jenny at the White House and in the recording studio when Elvis was laying down “Hound Dog.” Joey and Phoebe could have done the same during a Bamboozled break, or when Chandler proposes to Monica.

They’d be the John Legend and Chrissy Teigen of Friends, doin’ it everywhere.
