What’s On Tonight: ‘Empire,’ ‘South Park,’ And The ‘Code Black’ Premiere

Empire (FOX, 9:00 p.m.) — Cookie breaks off on her own to start a small record label, but learns too quickly that too many cooks (too many cooks) can present a slew of artistic problems.

South Park (Comedy Central, 10:00 p.m.) — “Gentrification” becomes a four-letter word as Kenny’s family is at odds with town brass as they get priced out of their neighborhood.

Modern Family (ABC, 9:00 p.m.) — The only thing worse than moving is offering to help a friend move and then having them actually take you up on it as though they didn’t know it was designed to be an empty offer. More Dunphy-style hi-jinks unfold as Alex tries to move off to college without any drama while Mitch and Cam take another route.

The Goldbergs (ABC, 8:30) — Adam pulls an Ashlee Simpson because he’s going through puberty and trying to hide his cracking voice while starring in “A Chorus Line” at school.

Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9:00 p.m.) — Olivia Benson and Co. teach a valuable lesson when they help a transgender teen who’s bullied on her walk home through a park.

Black-ish (ABC, 9:30 p.m.) — To gun or not to gun? The Johnsons debate the merits of bringing a firearm into their home.

Code Black (CBS, 10:00 p.m.) — Marcia Gay Harden is in charge of first-year residents in the busiest emergency room in the country in a new series that feels like ER on speed, but with much, much less Clooney.

Nashville (ABC, 10:00 p.m.) — Nothing like a little cross-promotional storyline to try to boost ratings. Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan make cameos by hosting Juliette’s total breakdown.

Chicago PD (NBC, 10:00 p.m.) — The Thin Blue Line stands together when a heroin kingpin abducts a detective.

The League (FXX, 10:00 p.m.) — Randall Cobb takes a break from catching touchdowns to counsel Jenny and Kevin in their relationship while Frank “The Body” does more Frank “The Body” stuff as he sues The Dre.

You’re the Worst (FXX, 10:30 p.m.) — Jimmy learns the hard way that writers are difficult, needy creatures when a job interview turns into a day-long affair.

Moonbeam City (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.) — Friends don’t let friends drink on a stakeout … because they might be hit with a wrecking ball.
