Tracy Morgan is coming back to 30 Rock to host Saturday Night Live this weekend. This would be news on its own, even without all that’s happened in the past year or so. The man created Brian Fellows, Astronaut Jones, and Woodrow the sewer-dwelling wooer of famous women. His SNL chops are unassailable. But then you factor in his recovery from the car accident that nearly took his life, and his emotional surprise appearance at this year’s Emmys, and his recent return to the comedy stage, and suddenly it all becomes a very big deal.
The promos for his hosting gig are above, and if you were wondering if Tracy changed or lost his sense of humor in any way during his rehabilitation, the answer appears to be a resounding “nope.” Confusing Bobby Moynihan for Horatio Sanz? Check. Bossing him around? Check? Promising to get everyone in the building pregnant? Check. (It’s strange how this ends up being the touching collection of words that lets us know he’s okay, you know?) The only thing missing from these promos is Tracy yelling at Lorne to go get him a soda. Gotta save something for the show, I suppose. Welcome back, Tracy.
