Just five episodes into this season’s American Horror Story: Hotel, FX has announced that the horror anthology series will be returning for a sixth season in 2016. This should come as no surprise, as ratings have continued to climb steadily with each installment. Previously, Ryan Murphy said that he hoped to produce two seasons of American Horror Story in 2016, however, this latest announcement only mentions the one.
CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf said in a press release Tuesday that American Horror Story has “has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series.”
From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity. This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.
The theme of the sixth season is still tightly under wraps, in addition to whether or not Lady Gaga will be returning, or the possibility of Jessica Lange coming back. But let’s see, we’ve had a haunted house, haunted asylum (with aliens), witches, a creepy carnival, and now a creepy hotel (with vampires)… What tropes remain untouched by Ryan Murphy? I hear zombies are popular.
Expect Ryan Murphy to drop ambiguous clues and teases over social media in the coming months, ahead of the big reveal.
