2015 Is An Unprecedentedly Great Year For TV, According To Rotten Tomatoes

First off, yes, Rotten Tomatoes has a section dedicated to television. It launched last year, but they’ve been tracking the “top TV shows” since 2011, when Breaking Bad, Homeland, Downton Abbey, and The Killing (lol) all received a spotless 100%. In 2012, it was only one series (Sherlock); 2013, three (Breaking Bad, Sherlock, The Returned); and 2014, four (Jane the Virgin, The Good Wife, Hannibal, Veep). Meanwhile, in 2015, there are no less than seven shows with perfect ratings: Better Call Saul, Fargo, The Knick, The Americans, Catastrophe, Deutschland 83, and most recently, Master of None, making it the fall’s best-reviewed new series. Suck it, Wicked City (16%).

The rest of the top 10 is filled out with Game of Thrones, Marvel’s Daredevil, and Mr. Robot, which are all 98% “Fresh.” That’s compared to the 7% that Dr. Ken received. Obviously, Rotten Tomatoes scores, which are calculated from critic reviews, aren’t the be-all, end-all of quality (again, The Killing was considered equal to Breaking Bad in 2011), but it’s indicative of something: TV is really, really, really, really good right now. Rick and Morty also has a 100%, but it didn’t receive enough reviews to qualify; same with Broad City.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, only two 2015 movies in the Top 100 have a perfect rating: Seymour: An Introduction and GETT: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem. Yeah, but do they have sex toilets? Didn’t think so.
