The ‘SNL’ Cast, Jon Hamm, And Emma Stone Screen Test For ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

If you’re a sucker for SNL sketches where the cast members get to show off their most random celebrity impressions and Star Wars and Jon Hamm name puns and… well, now I’m just describing everyone alive.

For the first time since last December, SNL acknowledged the much-anticipated The Force Awakens, except this time, it wasn’t a fake trailer; it was fake screen tests. Impressively, some of the stars from the actual movie — Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, as well as director J.J. Abrams — were there, but otherwise, it was four minutes of Bobby Moynihan as George Lucas, and Cecily Strong as Sofia Vergara, and Taran Killam as David Beckham, and Kate McKinnon as Maggie Smith. (Also, Emma Stone as her Aloha-ridiculing self.) The list of impressions keeps going on and on, but the best moment wasn’t an imitation. It was Jon Hamm as Han Solo, or Hamm Solo, as it were.

Hopefully Phil Lord and Chris Miller were watching. Anyway, there’s no substance to “Star Wars Auditions,” but it’s still a lot of fun, and a nice callback to one of the best impressions in SNL history: Kevin Spacey as Christopher Walken as Han Solo. No offense to Shaquille O’Neal, but Jack Lemmon is a much better Chewbacca.
