Seth MacFarlane Says A ‘Family Guy’ Movie Is Happening ‘Soon’

It took The Simpsons a good 17 seasons to make a movie where pig poop traps an entire town under a dome. It might be just as long for Family Guy, which is currently in its 14th season of cutaways and Cosby jokes.

There have been rumors of a full-length film for years. Back in 2012, creator Seth MacFarlane said that “we do know what the Family Guy movie will be.” He then praised The Simpsons Movie for being “hilarious,” but he had one criticism. “It’s a story,” MacFarlane commented, “they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plotline. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”

That’s right, full-frontal Mayor Adam West nudity. ‘Bout time. Anyway, MacFarlane, who’s currently not working on a sequel to A Million Ways to Die in the West, was asked for an update about a Family Guy film on Twitter.

So, there you go: “Soon.” I’ll circle that date on my Cleveland Show quote-a-day calendar. Technically, there’s already been a Family Guy movie: Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. But the special was released direct-to-DVD, so it doesn’t really count. Unlike Air Bud: Spikes Back, which always counts. If MacFarlane gets sick of answering Family Guy movie questions, he can always make an American Dad! film, instead. The soundtrack writes itself.
