‘Fargo’ Season Three Will Take Place After Season One

The first season of FX’s Fargo, adapted from the Coen Brothers movie set in 1987, took place in 2006. The action in the second season, which might be the best thing on television right now, happens in 1979. Season three will be “set a couple years after season one,” according to showrunner Noah Hawley.

It’s very timey-wimey.

When asked by EW whether any characters from season one, like Allison Tolman’s Molly, might pop up again next season, Hawley responded, “Potentially.” Either way, someone will hang out on a porch. And as for any American Horror Story-like clues for what the plot might be:

“There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first, but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn’t want to take that away from anybody,” he said. “There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story.” (Via)

Let’s say season three is set in 2009. I hope Mike Milligan is still alive, and there’s an entire episode about him watching the Balloon Boy media coverage. And it turns out Balloon Boy is actually a Gerhardt. There’s your pitch: “70-year-old Mike Milligan kills Balloon Boy.” The only thing I don’t like about that is we can’t see Bruce Campbell as Ronald Reagan again.
