New Footage Provides Even More Questions In This Massive ‘X-Files’ Featurette

The first day back to work after Christmas is always a bit of a drag, but the people behind The X-Files decided to make your Monday quite a bit brighter with a massive, 21-minute preview of the upcoming season, which debuts on Jan. 25. This will be the first time fans have seen Agents Mulder and Scully together on screen since the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe (which is probably better forgotten), so it’s fair to say that expectations are at an all-time high.

Show creator Chris Carter emphasizes how this new series will appeal to both die-hard fans and newbies, with a balance of standalone creature features, as well as episodes that emphasize more on the mythology that The X-Files is so famous for. According to the video, the new episodes will answer the lingering questions that fans have about what’s happened since The X-Files was shut down and why Mulder and Scully’s relationship, whatever the hell it was, dissolved. The preview also serves as an introduction for new cast members, including Joel McHale and Annet Mahendru from The Americans.

While all of this emphasis on the new is great, the video does serve to assuage any fears that viewers might have about whether this new adaptation will bring what they really want: terrifying aliens and a compelling core relationship. Those ingredients seem to still be intact, so I guess the truth really is still out there.
