Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer’s characters have a friendship for the ages on Broad City, but would the two ever become more than friends, as Ilana very clearly has made her intentions known? That was the question moderator Kelly Ripa brought up at a panel on the series at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday. Ripa, who famously made a guest appearance playing herself in season two of the show, asked Jacobson and Glazer point blank, “When will you get married?”
Unfortunately for any Abbi and Ilana ‘shippers out there, Glazer pretty much squashed any hopes of a “will they, won’t they?”
“I think they are married already in the way that they need to be right now,” Glazer responded. “I think, also, pretty sure they’re not gonna hook up. It’s just that part of friendship we experience. … It’s like New York. It’s part of the show and not a plot point. It’s a feeling that will always be part of the show. It’s a general romance that we don’t want to lose if it becomes super hotly sexual.”
Lucia Aniello, who writes and directs the Comedy Central series, added that they should “just be in the porn parody” of the show, so you can just let your imaginations run wild at that thought.
