The Latest ‘The Walking Dead’ Teaser May Have Dropped A Major Negan Spoiler

Spoilers

Obsessed fans of The Walking Dead who have been reading chatter from the various spoiler sites this summer — The Spoiling Dead, in particular — may have been given a strong impression that it is Abraham who dies at the hands of Negan in the seventh season premiere. That site has suggested that Michael Cudlitz — who plays Abraham — hasn’t been around on the set since they shot the season premiere.

However, last week, Michael Cudlitz seemed to have inadvertently ruled himself out as the victim in an interview with Popsugar, where he specifically says that he will continue to live in a world with Negan:

“[Denise’s] death spurs on a whole bunch of other stuff, and then the audience knows that Abraham will continue for a while now. Now we get to see what a world with Negan and Abraham both in it will be like. That’s something we don’t see in the graphic novels.”

Given the reliability in the past of The Spoiling Dead, some may have thought that Cudlitz was trying to throw viewers off the scent by outright fibbing in the interview. However, as The Huffington Post spotted, the latest teaser trailer seems to confirm that Abraham does, in fact, live.

Watch, and pay particular attention to the 22-second mark:

Did you catch this?

That person underneath the zombie looks a lot like Abraham. It’s possible, of course, that he dies in that scene, but it’s unlikely (it’s very, very rare for a character on this show to be bitten by a walker in a situation where a walker is on top of him, an oft repeated shot in this series).

If that is Abraham, then it lends more credibility to our theory — based on all the other evidence we’ve seen this summer — that it’s Maggie who dies in the season premiere. Carl was ruled out in the initial Negan scene; Rick, Glenn, Daryl and Eugene have all been spotted on set; Abraham has been seen in the trailer; and Sasha, Aaron, and Rosita are not major enough characters to fit the bill. That leaves only Maggie and Michonne, and it’s not going to be Michonne, while Instagram posts have suggested that Lauren Cohan has been away from The Walking Dead set.

We have all been saying, after all, that the show could not sustain two babies, and nothing could be more disturbing than watching Negan bash a pregnant woman to death.

We will find out for sure come October 23, when the seventh season of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC.
