Ali G wasn’t on the guest list at this year’s Academy Awards, but that didn’t stop Sacha Baron Cohen from smuggling in the “West Staines Massif” gent into the party. Mind you, nothing really seems to stop the slender Brit from engaging in something that might piss someone off. (Provided one of the sentient eyebrows from Oasis isn’t around.)
We’ve heard Baron Cohen’s side of the story of how he was able to sneak in one of his iconic characters, but his wife/accomplice Isla Fisher has a fascinating take on the whole affair plus some sneaky video to boot. The actress dished about the whole beard glue-y affair with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It was a mission that required secrecy and the noble concealing powers of Spanx.
“He said ‘I want to sneak in and do Ali G, but I can’t fit any of the costume on my body because they’re gonna put me through metal detectors and be ultra suspicious and Sweetie, will you fit giant yellow glasses, a hat, a glove, and a beard inside your Spanx?’”
Fisher noted it was a bit of a surreal experience because “you’re used to taking hair off down there to go to events instead of adding considerable amount of beard.” There probably wasn’t a section about costume smuggling in their wedding vows, but it was likely implied considering that’s the deal with partnering with Sacha Baron Cohen.
