Bryan Cranston Is Lyndon B. Johnson At His Most Historical In HBO’s ‘All the Way’ Trailer

Bryan Cranston just keeps on rolling. The Breaking Bad star recently minted his first Oscar nomination for his leading role in Trumbo, and will reprise his Tony-award winning performance as president Lyndon B. Johnson in the HBO Films production of All the Way, which premieres on May 21.

HBO unveiled the first trailer for the project this weekend and it looks like a powerhouse. In the trailer, we see LBJ learning of John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November of 1963, sending him from vice-president to the Oval Office. We then see the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Johnson’s campaign for the presidency that same year against challenger Barry Goldwater.

The film also features Oscar-winner Melissa Leo as Johnson’s wife, Lady Bird, Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Jr., Bradley Whitford as vice-president Hubert Humphrey and Frank Langella as Sen. Richard Russell, one of the most vocal opponents of the Civil Rights Act.

Cranston won the Drama Desk, Outer Critics and Theater World awards for his portrayal of Johnson in All The Way on Broadway. If the trailer for the movie version of this story is any indication, he should start making room in his trophy case for a fifth Emmy.
