From Bionics To Brown Notes: All The Sloppy Fun Science In ‘Archer’ This Season

Tonight, Sterling Archer and his fellow CIA freelancers will reenact the sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage in “Drastic Voyage: Part 1,” the first half of Archer‘s two-part season finale. So, let’s talk about miniaturization and eight other times this season decided to get all sciency-wiency on us.

RF Jamming, Or How To Make People Talk To Each Other

Instead of attending Malory’s scheduled team-building exercise, everyone gets stuck in the elevator. Rations are low, patience is lower, and cellphone reception is kaput due to Krieger’s radio frequency jammer. Why did Krieger install an RF jammer on top of the elevator? To encourage sociability!

Miniaturization, Or How To Finally Get Everyone To Stop Yelling

In the two-part season finale, the team gets shrunk down to the size of bacteria in order to destroy a blood clot threatening the life of a coveting scientist. Sure, miniaturizing the world’s most dysfunctional spy team will save Slater the usual ear ache, but the yelling will undoubtedly continue.

Horticulture, Or How To House The World’s Second Largest Collection Of Carnivorous Plants

During an op inside the Tunt Conservatory, Ray encounters one of the collection’s carnivorous specimens, a giant recreation of Little Shop of Horrors‘s Audrey II. Archer’s no help, so Ray must face the Tunt’s prized houseplant alone: “Hey, pretty girl, or boy, or gender fluid, or however you self identify…”

Holography, Or How To Be Prejudice Against Light Fields

The team’s ill-advised trip to bowling league reveals Cheryl’s entrenched bigotry against just about everyone, especially Krieger’s virtual girlfriend. Seems the Tunt heiress isn’t too fond of anyone who’s “a reconstructed light field produced by firing a laser through a beam splitter.”

Telepathy, Or How Not To Do A Scanners Impression

While illegally laid over at Area 51, Pam and Krieger encounter two aliens who communicate via telepathy. All Krieger wants to know is the key to understanding the universe, and he gets it. Meanwhile, Pam’s just worried the pair will make her head explode.

Bio Fuels, Or Why You Won’t Be Spending So Much At Gas Stations

Lana’s father, Lemuel Kane, tries to explain his environmental research with algae and bio fuels to Archer. Sterling, meanwhile, can only interpret Dr. Kane’s statement about never using gas stations again as something entirely different: “You’re buying us motorcycles!?”

Bionics, Or How To Become A Decepticon

Agent Conway Stern returned earlier this season to seek revenge against Archer and Lana for losing his left arm. Thanks to Krieger’s fascination with bionics, Stern sports a brand new appendage. Too bad he’ll need to return to the good doctor for another replacement.

The Brown Note, Or How To Make Your Enemies Crap Their Pants

The “brown note” is the dirtiest of Krieger’s many oddball experimental devices on display this season, literally. Using sound waves to trigger a target’s bowels? Sounds like a pretty sh*tty deal, to be honest.

Cloning, Or Why Krieger Hasn’t Been Himself Since Last Season

Is this Krieger the same Krieger Archer fans have come to love since the beginning? It seemed like Hitler’s clone had survived at the end of last season, at the expense of his fellow clones. However, between forgetting his coworker’s names and building a secret hideaway in the sauna, his identity remains a mystery…
