There will be a next “on the next… Arrested Development.”
Netflix announced that Mitchell Hurwitz’s beloved comedy, which aired for three seasons on Fox before being resurrected by the streaming service, will return for season five. According to Variety, the entire main cast, including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, and Alia Shawkat, have all signed up.
“In talks with Netflix, we all felt that that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days,” said creator Hurwitz (Koogler!) in a statement. “I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids; Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany?”
A fifth season of Arrested Development has been rumored since May 26, 2013, when season four premiered. Between now and then, we’ve gone from “determined” to “hopeful” to “before the 2016 presidential election” (oops) to “definitely” to “happening soon” to “looking really good” to “very probable” to it’s finally happening. Best of all, unlike season four, where each fractured episode was focused on a single character due to real-world scheduling conflicts, the Bluths will “collectively be spending more quality time with their millions of fans around the world,” according to Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos.
This scene wasn’t possible last season. Not it (hopefully) is.
