Australian TV Anchor’s Year-Long On-Air Sexism Experiment Is Kind Of Awesome

If you’ve ever watched Australia’s Today morning news show, you know that Karl Stefanovic is one badass TV anchor. He’s cracked jokes with the Dali Lama, interviewed Grumpy Cat, he’s a lover of sex jokes and he doesn’t mind pranking his poor co-hosts on the air. But Stefanovic isn’t just the greatest TV journalist of all time, he’s also a hardcore feminist.

Stefanovic has been wearing the same knock-off Burberry suit on air, for an entire year because, sexism. The TV anchor didn’t take kindly to the negative feedback his fellow female anchor Lisa Wilkinson was receiving and decided to call bullsh*t on the whole gender inequality problem. While Wilkinson is flooded with comments everyday on the outfits she wears on the show — people have questioned who her stylist is and even recommended she “get some style” — Stefanovic told Fairfax Media that no one cared about the lack of variety when it came to his own wardrobe:

No one has noticed; no one gives a sh*t, but women, they wear the wrong color and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there’s thousands of tweets written about them.Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear. I’ve worn the same suit on air for a year – except for a couple of times because of circumstance – to make a point. I’m judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humor – on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they’re wearing or how their hair is … that’s [what I wanted to test].

Karl Stefanovic, the totally unexpected face of the feminist movement.
