Before ‘Better Call Saul,’ Bob Odenkirk And Michael McKean Starred In A Classic ‘Mr. Show’ Sketch

Bob Odenkirk and Michael McKean star in AMC’s Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, as the McGill brothers, Jimmy and Chuck. Both are lawyers, with McKean’s Chuck a once-legendary Albuquerque attorney who is now battling mental issues, and Odenkirk’s Jimmy — soon to be Saul — a struggling new-ish attorney living in his shadow.

I bring this up for two reasons: One, because Better Call Saul is a good show, and you should watch it. And two, because way back in 1998, when Vince Gilligan was still just a staff writer on The X-Files, Odenkirk and McKean starred together in a sketch on Odenkirk’s HBO sketch series, Mr. Show. To make it all even more strange, the sketch was titled “Law School.” IT’S ALL CONNECTED and so on and so forth.

Anyway, the sketch is classic Mr. Show, in that it starts with a basic, straightforward premise and then promptly devolves into complete and glorious madness. Enjoy.
