Boys And Girls In Westeros: The Hold Steady Recorded A Song For ‘Game Of Thrones’

Don’t let the smirks and unstained clothes fool you — the Hold Steady is one of the drunkest, rowdiest, greatest bar bands out there, making them a perfect fit to perform a song from the Game of Thrones universe that’s often sung while drunk and rowdy during season two of the HBO series. Also, there’s a bear.

The band will perform “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” with lyrics by Martin and music by composer Ramin Djawadi. Last year, the National recorded Martin’s “The Rains of Castemere” for season two.

“As with the National, we went after one of our favorite bands and were happily surprised when they agreed to do it,” said showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. “This is one of the most popular songs in Westeros, beloved by nobles and commoners alike, sung at taverns and feasts and etc. We wanted our rendition to be bawdy and a little sloppy — drunken musicians getting up on the table and jamming while the rowdy party continues around them. There was no one better for the job than the Hold Steady.” (Via)

Indeed. Here’s a visual representation of a Hold Steady song.

Except replace wine with beer. Also, more beer.
