CBS has announced that The Late Late Show With James Corden is coming March 2015, which gives most Americans plenty of time to find out who James Corden is.
Corden was announced as the the host back in September, but now the new host has a premiere date. Corden will be taking over CBS’s The Late Late Show on March 9, 2015, nearly three months after Craig Ferguson’s last episode on December 19, 2014. Ben Winston (U.K.’s X Factor) will serve as the showrunner.
“We’re excited to begin CBS’s next chapter after midnight and introduce James’ wide range of performance talents and fearless creative instincts to American television viewers,” said CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler. “He and Ben have been friends for a long time and partnered together on a variety of successful projects. They are a creatively dynamic and very energetic host/producer combination.”
While I am incredibly sad to see Craig Ferguson leave late night, it will be exciting to see James Corden step up as the new host. I am a huge fan of Corden, but I realize that most American audiences had never heard of him before he was announced to take over for Craig Ferguson on CBS. For the uninitiated, I would recommend checking out Gavin and Stacey which he also co-wrote (currently available streaming on Netflix), his guest episodes on Doctor Who (“The Lodger,” “Closing Time”), and clips from his West End and Broadway smash-hit One Man, Two Guvnors, a role which won him a Tony Award. There is also The History Boys which he starred in with Richard Griffiths, Dominic Cooper, Russell Tovey, Sam Barnett, and Frances de la Tour, and he is playing the Baker in Disney’s Into the Woods.
If there is still time before March 2015, he was also in 2013’s Begin Again and One Chance, and he starred in Hulu’s original series The Wrong Mans, an action-comedy about two ordinary guys who accidentally get caught up in a kidnapping scheme.
There was also this time when he talked about forming his own boy bands called “Full Frontal” and “Insatiable” on The Graham Norton Show, if you are still unconvinced.
