Your Parents Helped CBS Set An Impressive Ratings Record Last Week

On April 4, 1964, The Beatles occupied the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Please Please Me.” (The closest anyone’s come to breaking the Fab Four’s record is, naturally, 50 Cent, who once had three singles in the top-five.) The same Beatlemaniacs that helped propel The Beatles to international stardom are now adults who, after a long day at work, just want to sit down in front of the TV with a glass of red wine and watch some CBS procedurals. And boy did they ever last week.

For the first time since “Nielsen started reporting live plus same day ratings in Dec. 2005,” according to the Wrap, the 10 highest-rated broadcast shows for the week ending Feb. 14 were all on CBS. In order, that’s NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, a Republican presidential debate, NCIS: New Orleans, Scorpion, Blue Bloods, 60 Minutes, Madam Secretary, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Life in Pieces.

Won’t somebody please think of the 2 Broke Girls?

CBS also won the week in viewers, as well as the adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 demographics for the second consecutive week… CBS also reached an all-time high in its Q4 earnings. The company achieved $3.9 billion in revenue, beating expectations of $3.79 billion for the best quarter in company history. (Via)

CBS is The Beatles; NBC is The Chipmunks Sing the Beatles Hits. Anyway, you could call your parents and tell them they helped set a ratings record, but then they’d ask why you don’t call more, and it’d become a whole THING. Instead, just text “bazinga.” They’ll know what it means.
