Cecily Strong’s ‘One-Dimensional Female Character’ On ‘SNL’ Is A Manic Parody Dream Girl

Lost in all the outrage of Cecily Strong being “removed” from SNL‘s Weekend Update desk was the fact that, hey, maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing. She was a very good anchor, but Strong’s even better at character work, and if she was still sitting to Jost’s left, she wouldn’t have been able to play the One-Dimensional Female Character In a Male-Driven Comedy, a send-up of Manic Pixie Dream Girls but with an even lengthier name. I wonder if she’d get along with The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With At a Party?
