Has the true crime bubble burst? Network and cable outlets have been loading up on shows banking on our continued obsession with IRL crime tales, so TV execs sure as sugar don’t think so. (And they’re sorta screwed if true crime fever fizzles out soon.)

Deadline reports that TNT will explore the disappearance and death of Chandra Levy in a new limited series executive produced by Hollywood vet Lawrence Kasdan. The project will be based on Scott Higham and Sara Horowitz’s 2010 book Finding Chandra: A True Washington Murder Mystery which chronicles the D.C. intern’s disappearance, the subsequent media spotlight, errors by police and the impact of factors like Levy’s relationship with Congressman Gary Condit. Not unlike upcoming projects such as NBC’s Law & Order series on the Menendez brothers and CBS’ JonBenét Ramsey and Patty Hearst offerings, the subject matter being covered has the surreal quality of being tailor-made for television even though it’s already been a TV obsession.

The series, which is currently in the development stage, will have Keith Huff (American Crime, House of Cards) penning the script. Will you be watching once (if?) this TNT series makes it to air? Weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.
