Stephen Colbert Playfully Mocked All Of Rick Santorum’s Beliefs In The Weirdest Interview On TV Last Night

When I read that Rick Santorum was to appear on The Colbert Report last night I assumed it would just be Colbert in a sweater vest channeling Santorum and announcing his intentions to run for president in 2016 after he spends the next few years showing the American people that he is capable of accomplishing the impossible by eradicating that Google issue. I was half right.

Rick Santorum was actually on the show. And there was a legitimate interview. But there was also Colbert in character sporting a sweater vest and playfully mocking pretty much everything Santorum stands for while pretending to agree with him. He doesn’t full-on shred the former senator, and I must admit it’s the least foolish and insane Santorum has ever seemed to me (not a high bar) despite the fact that he’s completely out of touch and on the wrong side of every social issue. The whole thing is really just a credit to National Treasure Stephen Colbert for having the ability to balance a comedy persona and legitimate journalism all at once. It’s still super weird though.
