Yesterday we learned the terrible news about the death of Robin Williams and offered followup coverage thereof. Conan O’Brien was taping last night’s episode of Conan when the news broke. He delivers the sad news to Will Arnett, Andy Richter, and the studio audience in the video above. Oof. This is a rough one, you guys. As Will Arnett put it, “As funny as he was — he’s truly one of the all-time greats — he was even better as a person. He was even more fantastic– just the loveliest, sweetest, one of the kindest guys that I’ve ever worked with.”

I don’t have anything profound to say about this awful news, but it did remind me of a quote:

“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.” — Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms

We hope Robin Williams is hearing some really great jokes right now.
