Remembering Fox’s Crappy Post-Apocalyptic Series That Predated ‘The Last Man On Earth’ By 23 Years

Will Forte is a proven commodity now. He was amazing on Saturday Night Live, he was great in Nebraska, and his new Fox post-apocalyptic comedy, The Last Man on Earth, did a solid 2.3 Nielsen rating on Sunday night, making it the fourth-biggest new comedy series debut this season. The pilot almost plays out like a fantasy scenario with Forte’s character doing the cool stuff you wish you could do if you could do whatever you wanted, but this is not the first time Fox tried this premise. The network first attempted to create comedy out of chaos 23 years ago, with the 1992 multi-camera comedy Woops!.

The pilot (above) introduces the six characters who comprise the cast. There’s a studio audience, bad hair, some deadpan jokes, and the whole thing just falls flat. TV Guide even named the series the 42nd worst TV show of all-time, which is quite the feat considering how many bad TV series there have been. TV veteran Evan Handler (with hair!) provides the lead, but the show is just as bad as its name. Seriously, why would anyone name a show Woops!?

Woops! lived up to its name and was cancelled after nine episodes. You will be remembered, Woops!.

(Note: The last Woops! was not in reference to the TV series. I actually fell while typing on my treadmill desk.)
