So Who Was The Diabolical Genius Behind The Hilarious ‘Dumb Starbucks’ Prank?

It definitely seemed too good to be true. A Californian coffee shop sticking it to Starbucks by standing behind the shield of parody law to shine an unnecessary light on the ridiculousness of overpriced java? “Dumb Starbucks” as it was known through its incredibly fast rise in popularity on the Internet seemed to be the ballsiest business idea of 2014, and it was sure to have thousands of people waiting in line just for the satisfaction of knowing that they kind of stuck it to The Man. But it also seemed way too obvious of a joke, so it was really only a matter of time before someone stepped forward and claimed responsibility.

That person? Comedian Nathan Fielder, the star of Comedy Central’s Nathan for You, which returns for its second season later this year. According to Eater, Fielder showed up to a press conference earlier today to take credit for the prank, while also announcing that a second Dumb Starbucks is opening in Brooklyn soon.

Now we just sit back and wait for the actual Starbucks to punish our insolence by raising its prices by another 25%. Who are we kidding, we’ll pay. We always do.
