Kenny Powers — the man with an arm like a rocket, a c*ck like a Burmese python, and a mind like a f**king scientist — has pulled off the impossible the only way that Kenny f**king Powers knows how: Through hard work, perseverance, and blind, dumb luck. HBO has granted him a fourth season. Eastbound & Down, which had been left for dead after a third season that was designed as an end to the series, will be brought back for a short, eight-episode fourth season. According to The Wrap:
The pick-up comes as something as a surprise, as it was widely believed that last year’s third season would be its last, with co-creator Jody Hill admitting, “we always pictured the show as lasting three seasons. It’s a kind of trilogy … We think it’s going to be the last one, but never say never.”
I don’t really understand the move: Three seasons seemed like the perfect amount of Kenny Powers, and the third season ended nicely. What happened to leaving them wanting more? Huh? Oh, I know: Get me paid, right? Typical Kenny Powers hubris: “So that is why, I, am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my a$$ and suck my d*ck! EVERYONE!”
Unfortunately, to do a fourth season will require undoing that perfect ending — as I recall (SPOILERS), Kenny Powers faked his death to avoid his major-league comeback and be with April and his kid. He left baseball for good. You can’t top that for a happy ending, so really, the only direction left for Eastbound & Down is the tragic hero route.
To be a successful season, the bulletproof tiger will have to die.
