Emma Roberts, who is starring in Ryan Murphy’s new horror-comedy Scream Queenspremiering next Tuesday on Fox, has said that for her role as head sorority b*tch, she drew inspiration from the famous “deranged sorority girl” email that went viral back in 2013. As such, at a recent Fox press event, E! News‘ Kristin Dos Santos asked Roberts if she would do a dramatic reading of the letter written by University of Maryland now-graduate, Rebecca Martinson.

Ryan Murphy also weighed in on Martinson’s letter:

It was jaw-dropping, the language that this particular young woman used. She was pretty much a despicable person. And we were interested in mirroring that idea, but, unlike that girl, who apologized, sort of bringing our queen bee character to some sort of awareness about her behavior and why she is doing these things.

For the record, Rebecca Martinson now works for Uproxx sister (brother?) site, BroBible, and she is still a despicable person and I mean that in only the most complimentary and endearing way possible. I reached out to Rebecca asking if she’d like to provide feedback on Roberts’ performance, and she was all too happy to weigh in:

I mean, I’ve been called “scary,” “intimidating” and “hardcore” before, and that reading was literally none of that. Michael Shannon KILLED it, whereas Roberts just kinda read it out loud with a halfhearted b*tch voice. My farts are scarier than what she just did.

There you have it. I hope Emma Roberts steps up her game for Scream Queens or we may have found her successor for next season. Why go with an imitation when you can have the real thing?
