‘Fear The Walking Dead’ And ‘The Walking Dead’ Will Officially Cross Over

Robert Kirkman has been saying for three years now that Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead would never cross over. In fact, last year, Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Scott Erickson said that “there is no Fear the Walking Dead in that universe. [The spinoff] didn’t come from the comic, so some tectonic plates would have to shift to make [a crossover] happen.”

Those tectonic plates will shift sometime next season.

At a New York Comic Con panel today, Robert Kirkman told fans that the two world would collide next year. One character will crossover into the other show. Robert Kirkman offered no other details. He didn’t say whether a Fear character would join The Walking Dead or vice versa, but that won’t stop us from speculating.

My guess? Given the rate of deaths on Fear the Walking Dead, it’s sagging ratings (though, it did tick up last week), and the fact that it’s only been renewed through season four, I would wager that not only will a Fear the Walking Dead character join The Walking Dead, but that it might even be the final surviving character from Fear the Walking Dead. If I had to guess, it would be Alycia Debnam-Carey’s Alicia, who signaled last week that she is leaving everyone else behind and heading out on her own. Could she make it as far as Alexandria?

On the other hand, The Walking Dead, which is stacked with characters ahead of the All Out War, could send one of their characters — say, for instance, the missing Heath — to Fear the Walking Dead in an effort to help resuscitate ratings for the companion series. After all, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple said just last week that Heath would be returning to The Walking Dead universe, but that it wouldn’t happen this year. Is it possible that Heath has been spending the last year traveling westward? It would totally make sense.

In either respect, it’s exciting news for both shows, and something very much to look forward to for both The Walking Dead and the creatively rejuvenated Fear the Walking Dead.
