During the series premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, we got to experience the early stages of a walker invasion from the perspective of citizens who have no idea what’s in store for them going forward. While later episodes will be dealing with the further degrading of society with power outages, looting, and an overstepping of boundaries, here, we get to see people’s initial reactions to the undead just showing up out of nowhere.
Things got going from the jump, as Nick saw one of his friends chomping people at the drug den he was sleeping in. Unfortunately, between the drugs he was taking and the car that hit him, Nick came off as a bit unbelievable.
Then came the viral video of a long traffic stop one night. No one knew what to make of it.
Nick later got into a scuffle with his buddy Calvin. Things did not end well for Calvin.
But by the time Madison and Travis got to him, however, Calvin was out taking a walk. He didn’t seem to have a sense of oncoming vehicles.
Calvin had turned into a walker. For the first time, we get to see other main characters dealing with one head-on.
Worried about his family’s safety, Nick decided the best move here was to run over Calvin. Normally, this might work…
… however, we’re not dealing with normal here. As there wasn’t a headshot, the car did nothing to stop this version of Calvin.
This led to a few question we know the answers to (“Will this phenomenon be contained?”) and some that we’ll find out as the season progresses (“Why/how quickly does it all go to crap?”). We’ll see how many of those questions get answered next week.
