‘Game Of Thrones’ Casts Small But Crucial Season Three Role

I’m not one of the smug book readers, so I don’t know exactly why this casting is important, but a character named Roslin Frey has been cast for season three. British actress Alexandra Dowling has landed the role. Why is that important? Well, according to this blurb I scanned very quickly without letting any of the pertinent spoiler-y information sink into my brain, I think she is the woman that Robb Stark is supposed to marry via an arranged marriage. Difficulties with the arranged marriage play central to a famously bloody sequence in George R.R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords. For book readers, here’s some more info on the character (from ScreenCrush), although I’d recommend that everyone else skeedaddle, and most certainly, avoid the comments, where I’m guessing that book readers will opine on the casting.

Keeping in mind potential spoilers, Roslin Frey was one of Walder Frey (David Bradley)’s daughters, given to marry Catelyn Stark’s brother Lord Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) in hopes of appeasing Walder for Robb Stark’s betrayal. Robb had agreed to marry one of Frey’s daughters in order for his army to cross river impasse castle The Twins, but later reneged to be with Jeyne Westerling (Oona Chaplin’s Talisa Maegyr in the series).

Without giving too much away, let’s just say that Walder Frey didn’t let the Stark slight against his family slide so easily.

Dowling has no previous screen credits.

In other news, I just love that this guy:

Looks like this in real life.

That realization makes my wife’s crush on him in Game of Thrones a bit less weird.
